Ali Romanow was born and raised on Vancouver Island in Courtenay BC. Raised by two musicians Ali’s passion for music was evident from a very early age. When she was five she picked up violin for the first time, since then she has traveled to many music workshops and festivals gathering influences in Celtic, bluegrass, folk, jazz and swing. Already comfortable onstage Ali performed on the main stage of the Vancouver Island Music Festival at ten years old with Bowstruck, a seven-piece fiddle group. In 2008 she returned to her home festival armed with her dads martin guitar and backed up by Todd Butler this time to sing her own original songs.
At 21 she’s equally at home on Fiddle, Viola, and Guitar, and has spent the past two years teaching and playing in various venues throughout the gulf islands and the Lower mainland. Ali has a solo demo of original songs and a collaborative CD with Luke Guthrie. Her current projects include Mission Hill, a Bluegrass, Country and Folk band, the Sirens, and the Absolut Polska Band, a crazy Eastern European gypsy band. For the past 2 years Ali has had a successful teaching studio in the Comox Valley where she shared her love of music teaching Violin, Fiddle, Guitar and voice. Now based out of Victoria BC, Ali continues to teach and expand her musical career. for more information on Ali's musical project Mission Hill go to www.missionhillfamilyband.weebly.com “Ali Romanow has the gift of not only being a great performer but also a unique songwriter. Her songs are interesting and provocative and delivered with a poise beyond her years on stage and in the studio” – Todd Butler |
